In 2002 she started her career at the Department of Juvenile Services (DJS) as a Youth Supervisor at Cheltenham Youth Detention Facility until Baltimore City Juvenile Justice Center opened in October of 2003. While at DJS Deitra knew she wanted to help the youth beyond working with them while they were being housed in detention. In 2006 Deitra transferred to the Community Detention Electronic Monitoring division. Not only was she a Community Detention Officer she was a fill-in Court Liaison and Adjunct Trainer at DJS. Deitra also went back to college and received her Associate Degree in Business Management at Eastern Gateway Community College through AFSCME, was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and graduated with Summa Cum Laude in 2020. Deitra stayed at DJS throughout her career working with youth, the community and their families and retired on September 1, 2023. Her work spanned throughout Maryland, including Baltimore County, Harford, Howard, Carroll, Cecil County, and Baltimore City.

 As a Personal Development Trainer and leader of The Bridge the Gap Committee of Maryland (B.T.G.C) under Each 1 Save 1, Coach Dei connected with a host of transformational community-based organizations to help merge their services together to provide the youth and families with more resources. Coach Dei's positive attitude and cheerful personality, combined with her advanced training and hands-on experience, have allowed her to build impactful relationships with the youth, families, schools, court systems, community leaders, and various partners. Coach Dei now serves youth, their families, and adults on a broader scale with her Discover ME and Re-Set program along with a host of other services provided by other organizations under the Bridge the Gap Committee of Maryland. Her enthusiasm and passion for empowering and guiding the current and next generation is invigorating.

Deitra, now affectionately known as Coach Dei, started Each 1 Save 1 LLC in 2016 with a mission to teach mindfulness skills to youth and adults to improve there level of awareness, self-image and confidence so they can become thoughtful contributors to their communities while assisting with career discovery.

 

Deitra was born and raised in east Baltimore, MD. After graduating school late, she immediately became a 1-to-1 aid working with special needs students and later worked at Baltimore City Public School System as a Technical Support Personnel in Child Study I.E.P team.
